Northfield Doocot

This beehive-shaped 16th century doocot is associated with nearby Northfield House. It contained about 600 nestboxes, and was in poor repair until restored by the National Trust for Scotland in 1972. Its close proximity to Image] seems to give the lie to the assertion that it was not permitted to build a doocot less than two miles from the boundary of your own land - although as all the land belonged to the Hamiltons of Preston, both doocots may have been within the two mile zone.
