Above Batchworth lock, the river and the Grand Union Canal share the same course for some distance. Both routes here seem to descend from the canal via weirs, beyond sight here, but a waterworks mostly out of sight to the right complicates matters. The smaller course to the left was flowing very briskly. This course also seems to link under the canal with waterways associated with the River Chess.
