Opened in 1892 by the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway on its line from Manchester to Sheffield via Woodhead, this station replaced an earlier station some 350m further west. View west towards Gorton and Manchester. At one time there were a further two platforms on each side making six in total!
