Disused quarry near Powmill

A disused quarry situated to the west of Powmill. Comparison of the terrain with its underlying geology reveals this quarry to be positioned over a quartz micro-gabbro outcrop of the Midland Valley Sill Complex, formed in the Carboniferous Period - 290-327 million years ago. The Midland Valley Sill Complex is extensive, and can be seen at many other local sites including the North Queensferry road cutting (M90), Nivingston Craigs, Benarty Hill, and the Lomond Hills.
