These gates and gateposts on Rectory Lane/Church Street East, are all that remains (apart from some rubble) of the former East Lancashire Paper Mill. The mill, one of the towns major employers, operated from 1860 until 2001. After it closed, the site was cleared as part of a plan to build a new school (which didn't happen).
