Well actually the viaduct was buried in 1913 when it was found to be unstable due to mining subsidence. The railway was built in 1867 by the North Eastern Railway company as an extension to the Cleveland Railway from Carlin How to Loftus. It is still in use today as a mineral branch line to the Boulby Potash Mine.
