St Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church dates from 1840. It is built of red sandstone in a very imposing Classical style in the form of a prostyle temple. The west end of the church has six massive fluted Ionic columns with frieze and pediment, with a tall central doorway under a portico. The church is designated as a Grade II listed building by English Heritage. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1253246 National Heritage list for England
