In early 2013 works began to improve Thornton Heath station, incorporating extended platforms with step-free access (at the middle rather than, as now, at the extreme south end). This picture shows, to the left, the central island platform (this side of it is platform 2, the up slow line), and to the right platform 1 (down slow). The near sections of the platforms have lost their canopies in preparation for the installation of lifts in that space.
