Works at Thornton Heath station

Image: © Christopher Hilton Taken: 5 Mar 2013

In early 2013 works began to improve Thornton Heath station, incorporating extended platforms with step-free access (at the middle rather than, as now, at the extreme south end). This picture shows, foreground, the steps descending to the central island platform (platforms 2 and 3, the up slow and down fast lines respectively). The staircase and the first few yards of the platform have lost their canopies, and protruding up through the space are the towers for the new lifts down to platform level.
