The footpath here crosses the valley of the Cliff Brook - the footbridge is just visible to the left of the telegraph pole. However we found the intervening footpath impassable - we made it across quaking mud (on a dubious mat of floating vegetation) as far as the stile, but beyond that the knee-deep open bog defeated us. It may be passable in high summer, but given the surrounding vegetation (reedmace!) I suspect this path is rarely usable. We initially assumed that the barbed wire fence across the entrance to the valley floor was merely an illegal obstruction, but now suspect it may be a deliberate deterrent to save people attempting the crossing. Shame, because it's a pretty spot. Reported to Rights of Way Office, though the remedy is unclear (a boardwalk?).
