Until the Baltic Flour Mills site was developed as an arts centre, despite being 10 miles from the sea, it was home to lots of breeding kittiwakes. A special tower was built to accommodate the birds (see Image and http://www.gateshead.gov.uk/Leisure%20and%20Culture/countryside/sites/kittiwakes.aspx ) but some of them prefer their original choice! There are 20+ pairs of birds and chicks on this ledge, seen from the viewing gallery of the Baltic.
