The original station was opened in 1848 on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's line from Wakefield to Pontefract, and closed in 1967. Old photographs show both platforms were on this side of the level crossing. When the station reopened in 1992, one of the platforms was sited on the far side of the crossing.
