A view through a bus window of an empty railway while we were stuck on a full road. The building on the left is William Whiteley's Furniture Depository. William Whiteley arrived in London from Yorkshire with £10. He built up a retail business supplying more or less everything to the expanding market of Victorian London. He became a millionaire in the process, only to be murdered in 1907, shot by an illegitimate son. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Whiteley The building on the other side is Tesco's car park. Probably much less dramatic.
