This engine nearly brought down Rolls Royce, in fact it forced it into bankruptcy and nationalisation by the British Government. It's a turbo fan engine, the large fan at the front forces air past the engine like a propeller, this provides 70% of the thrust. All in all generating up to 166 to 270 kilonewtons. The RB was succeeded by the Trent family which is powering today's modern jets like the Boeing 737 dreamliner.
