The wood on the left side of the track is shown on the map as Folly Plantation. I did wonder if it might have been named after the only remaining part of the Dukesfield Smelt Mill Image While the rest of the mill had been completely removed this Gothic-arched bridge had been left as a kind of ornamental folly, almost hidden in the woodland. However, a look at the First Edition 1:10,560 OS map shows the two fields north of the road, east of the Devils' Water and the former site of Dukesfield Mill, carried the name 'The Folly'. The 1:2500 map gives no indication of a building and later maps no longer show the name.
