This derrick is one of three attached to The Albany building alongside George Street. The Albany was built in 1856 as offices and a warehouse for cotton traders, and the derricks would have been used to lower bales of cotton down to the basement of the building. The Albany is Grade II listed: http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-359185-the-albany- and now has been converted into modern apartments: http://www.albanyliverpool.co.uk/index.php
