It commemorates where some of The Cockleshell Heroes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockleshell_Heroes lived while they were preparing for their mission; and the only difference with this one http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3200858 in nearby Spencer Road is the words "THE MEN" instead of "THE OFFICERS"
