This cycleway follows the route of the old Midland Railway line which closed to passengers in 1966. This view is looking towards Lancaster, at the site of Torrisholme Junction No.1, where lines from Morecambe and Heysham converged. The Midland Railway lines between Lancaster, Morecambe & Heysham were electrified with a pioneering alternating current overhead electrification scheme.
