The Mains of Knockhall is the main farm for this tiny community but the steadings in the foreground belong to Ythan Lodge. Knockhall Castle can also be seen on the ridge. The castle was built by 3rd Lord Sinclair of Newburgh in 1565. It has been a ruin since 1734 when it accidentally caught fire.
