In this derelict corner where Aswell spring once rose, at the bottom of the horse steps, whatever inspired a local builder to make a memorial to the race horse Mill Reef? See also: Image and Image This is where the Aswell spring rose. It flowed through the Gatherums and supplied the open-air swimming pool and Winch's brewery in Church St. The spring has now been culverted, but you can still hear it under a nearby inspection cover. This was a rather unprepossessing entrance to Louth's Gatherums park, recently refurbished by the "Gatherums and Springside Regeneration Group". However in 2014 they tackled this area also - and spared Mill Reef. The results can be seen in Image], Image] and Image
