At this point the inner lane is for traffic turning off the A40 onto the North Circular, and vehicles are changing lanes or encountering queues. Entering London the speed limit has changed from 50 mph to 40 mph about half a mile back, and two speed cameras enforce it and smooth the traffic flow.
