Lytham Railway Station is on the line from Blackpool South to Preston. This view is looking towards Blackpool South. The service on this line runs beyond Preston to a few other places but services are now hourly, and two hourly on Sundays. In the winter months there is no Sunday service. Years ago the line carried on east beyond Blackpool South to the now demolished Blackpool Central station, and it was double tracked. In recent years there has been some suggestion that the line could be electrified as a light rail or tramway operation, and linked to the recently modernised Blackpool tramway at Blackpool South. There are no definite plans for this but it wouldn't be surprising if such a scheme emerged in the next decade or two. Such a line could perhaps link up with the proposed tramway at Preston which is being promoted by a private company. Only time will tell if such a scheme materialises.
