Just one of the rows of the Bute Town 'model village' development today. Bute Town consists of 48 homes split into three rows or streets of 16 houses and is of a Palladian design, built to house industrial workers in exemplary conditions where the homes were intentionally designed to improve health by giving all residents space, light and modern conveniences. In addition local building materials were used - local sandstone roof tiles and local Millstone Grit walls. They look better than many streets of terraced homes built a century later.
