The 200 acres of Selsdon Wood was saved in the 1920s when it became the joint responsibility of the Croydon Corporation and the Urban District Council of Coulsdon & Purley, with ownership being vested in The National Trust. This footpath runs just inside Selsdon Wood alongside Quail Gardens. Close behind are two long distance paths. Both the London LOOP and the Vanguard Way pass through Selsdon Wood. The former is a 152 mile circle around London, largely through the Green Belt, while the latter is a 66 mile route from East Croydon to Newhaven.
