The Pier Head building

This building was built during WW2 as a mess hall for troops. Over several years it fell into a state of serious disrepair whilst various plans were mulled over and discarded. A few years ago artists (Shocked Custard) painted the tromp l'oeil murals on the walls, seen here, to highlight the problem. In May 2012 plans were passed to demolish and replace the building. The nearest, blue mural shows a clean interior with an 'Approved' stamp on the wall - this is a change from its appearance in 2009 ( Image ). In the background, a building flies a pair of Olympic rings flags.
