Adeiladwyd Reilffordd Tâf Bargod yn 1876 i gysylltu y gwaith haearn yn Nowlais â Chaerdydd. Tan 1964 bu reilffordd hefyd yn cludo teithwyr. Codwyd y bont yma dros hen heol sy bellach wedi ei hisraddio i lwybr ceffyl. The Taff Bargoed Railway was built in 1876 to link the iron works at Dowlais with Cardiff. Until 1964 passengers travelled along its length. The bridge was constructed to span an old road which has now been downgraded to a mere bridleway.
