The railway tracks on the left and in the middle are part of the West Coast Main Line, a 400-mile route linking London with Glasgow. The track to the right is a branch line heading to and from Morecambe. Just visible in the distance, beyond the bridge, this track veers off to the right. The main line tracks are electrified using overhead cables.
