Looking north-east across the Grange towards the buildings of the main University district. The low profile of the University Library in George Square can be easily identified with the white shape of the Appleton Tower and the darker David Hume Tower standing to its right. The prominent building at the centre of the picture is the former Esdaile College in Kilgraston Road. This was a school for daughters of ministers of the Church of Scotland until its closure in the late 1960s. It has since been converted to private apartments.
