The Weobley Magpie

The Herefordshire village of Weobley was the joint 1999 winner (with the Wiltshire village of Edington) of the Calor Gas/Daily Telegraph Great Britain Village of the Year award. The winnings were invested in this larger-than-life sheet-metal sculpture of a magpie, located at the southern end of Broad Street near the High Street junction. The magpie is the village's emblem and its monthly village information magazine is named The Magpie. The work of sculptor Walenty Pytel, the magpie is atop a 9ft plinth.
