Nearest on the left is Denmark Mill, a typical smaller mill of the mid-19th century, which contrasts with the typical large mill (Bolton Textile Mill No.2) of around 1900. On the right is Cawdor Mill. Smaller mills generally survived by concentrating on specialised markets.
