This large memorial, with an urn on top, was designed by Alexander "Greek" Thomson, and sculpted by J & G Mossman. The main inscription is as follow: "In memory of Alexander Ogilvie Beattie D.D., M.D., First Minister of Gordon Street, now St Vincent Street United Presbyterian Church. Born 16th August 1783, Died 9th June 1858, in the 51st year of his ministry". The other sides of the monument provide further brief details. For example, the text on the near side reads "Inducted at Glasgow, October 1825".
