Viewed across the B4275. Located in The Basin, Abercynon Fire Station is part of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. There is a plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1538672 in front of the fire station near the point where the world's first steam locomotive ended its historic 1804 trip from Merthyr Tydfil to Abercynon. In the drill yard there is a part of a crane used to load and unload barges on the old Glamorganshire canal.
