The Britannia Building, sandwiched between John William Street and Station Street, has its front elevation on the now-pedestrianised St George's Square opposite the George Hotel. Occupied for many years by The Huddersfield Building Society (later to become The Huddersfield and Bradford Building Society); the ground floor was converted into a banking hall for the Society in 1926 by Clifford Hickson, a local architect. It has now hosts a number of smaller retail and office units.
