Scattered around the boatyard are dozens of old railway vans. This one has come to rest right on the bank of the creek. Most, I suppose, are used for storage, but some have been converted to chalets, and one (No. 33) houses a nautical bookshop (open at weekends). The story, as I was told it by a resident, is that the area was once a railway yard, handling goods for the port of Faversham. When the tracks were lifted (probably about 1970) many railway vehicles were simply abandoned in situ, minus their heavy running gear - which went for scrap.
