The John Radcliffe Hospital, aka "The JR" is on a hilltop site. This chimney is a bit of a landmark. John Radcliffe (1652–1714) was a physician, originally from Yorkshire. He was court physician to Royal couple William and Mary. A number of landmark buildings in Oxford, including the Radcliffe Camera (in Radcliffe Square), the Radcliffe Infirmary, and the Radcliffe Observatory were named after him.
