Driving the widened A379 through old Teignmouth and forming Quay Road was brutal but it gave better access to the docks for the big wagons from the ball clay quarries near Newton Abbot. This huge retaining wall created space for the Teign Street car park, foreground, and Pellew House, a block of flats behind the camera.
