This was once the A74, a dual carriageway connecting England and Glasgow. Now replaced by the M74 (out of sight to the right), the road is a single carriageway with a cycle path. The road itself is quiet and not ruined by barriers and "cyclists dismount" signs. At this time the cycle path was well surfaced but this will probably not remain the case.
