Located in the pedestrianised area of High Street. Born in Dudley in 1936, Duncan Edwards was arguably the best of the Busby Babes, the name given to the young Manchester United team formed by manager Matt Busby in the mid 1950s. Duncan Edwards died aged 21 as a result of the 1958 Munich air disaster. 23 of the 44 people on the plane died, including 8 Manchester United players. The statue shows him wearing England colours. He played for his national team 18 times, scoring 5 goals. He played 175 times (151 at senior level) for Manchester United, scoring 21 goals (20 at senior level).
