A tree with dead wood in the crown like this one is known as "Stagy" specimens. The stinging nettles at its base are evidence of the "enrichment" of the soil around the tree caused by the presence of the sheep. The downside is the compaction of soil caused by the animals can damage the roots reducing the lifespan of veteran trees such as this one.
