The St. Helens Annual Show at Sherdley Park, held at the end of July has been going for many years. Originally a walking day parade for the Pilkington work force families until the mid 1960s with floats and exhibits of various kinds, budgies, flowers, veg. etc., further attractions of fairground rides and army, red devil, and aerial acrobatics and parachutists came later. This parade outgrew its venue at Ruskin Drive Sports Fields and its status, St.Helens council has kept this tradition going ever since at the larger venue of Sherdley Park.
