Built in 1876 in the wake of a visit by the American evangelists Moodie and Sankey, the Tent Hall took its name from the tent on Glasgow Green erected for their revivalist campaign two years previously. In the 1920s it attracted large audiences of up to a 1,000 and provided between 2,000 and 3,000 free breakfasts each week for the Poor. It closed in 1979.
