Basford cemetery viewed from the boundary wall that separates the old Futurist cinema car park from the cemetery. The remains of the pair of chapels, built in 1876, are obvious. Constructed from rock-faced stone with steeply pitched patterned slate roofs they were designed in a Gothic Revival style with granite shafts, lancet windows, hood moulds and stone gargoyles. Sadly they have been unusable for some time; their last use being for storage purposes, although this has now ceased too. The buildings suffered fire damage in January 1995 when one side chapel was burnt-out requiring the subsequent removal of its unsafe roof. It appears that it has proved difficult to identify and possible uses for the premises that are economically viable in view of the amount of reconstruction that would be required. Perry Road lies beyond the boundary wall ahead on the right.
