You probably have to be a bench mark enthusiast (obsessive) to accept that the slightly whitened horizontal line is in fact an early bench mark that dates to the 1851-58 First Geodetic Levelling survey for this area. The arrow head is practically invisible but the mark is in the centre of the canal bridge as described on the original schedule.
