Chequer's Bridge detail. The newest section was built in the 1950s. It replaced a bridge built in 1896 by Hartley Wintney Rural District Council Sewerage Board and this bridge in turn had replaced the original brick arch bridge of c1792 which was built when the canal was cut. As this photo shows some of the earlier brick foundations are still in place.
