View SW, towards Nottingham, Leicester and London, also Retford, Lincoln and Grimsby, on the ex-GC main lines from Manchester. This is the 10.00 Marylebone - Manchester London Road express and the two B1s had taken over (from another B1) at Leicester Central. These B1s were almost brand-new and perhaps not entirely trusted - especially over the 'mountains' to Manchester, hence the double-heading. The engine depicted is No. 1156 (built 5/47, withdrawn 11/63).
