What remains of the main runway of the old Whitchurch Airport. It opened in 1930 to carry passengers across the nation and from 1935 to Europe. But the outbreak of war brought an official presence which still used it as a commercial base but also for some clandestine operations - chiefly flying VIPs to and from neutral Portugal. Post-war, it continued to serve the public until 1957 when the more expandable Lulsgate site was chosen to be the airport of the future. See Image] for a look towards the other end.
