Although there are several Grade II listed dwellings in the immediate area, The Bladebone is not numbered amongst them. Reputedly it derives its name from an ancient mammoth scapula found on the nearby common and hung up outside the pub. Certainly the pub was mentioned in 19th C censuses and nowadays it offers friendly staff and proper beer. Under its new management food standards are good.
