Located in St Mary's Square viewed looking towards an Iceland store. A plaque on the pedestal records that the statue was unveiled in 1886 by Lord Aberdare on the site of Island House, Castle Square. The statue was moved to Victoria Park in 1936. It has been in its present location since 1982. Another plaque on the pedestal records that the statue was erected by the citizens of Swansea in recognition of the eminent service rendered to the port and town by Sir H(enry) Hussey Vivian, Bar(one)t, MP. He was born on July 6 1821, died November 28 1894. It was largely because of his activities in various fields, such as metallurgy and railways, that Swansea became a major industrial centre. The statue and pedestal were Grade II listed in 1987.
