"Unforgettable", wrote Pevsner. By Erno Goldfinger for the Greater London Council, 1966-72, and clearly a development of his earlier Balfron Tower (Image]). It is clad in bush-hammered concrete. The service tower is detached from the main slab and connected on every third floor (Image]). Hard to believe in 2012, but the provisions were generous - marble-lined entrance halls and spacious balconies - which is no doubt why, having been blighted by the customary social problems, it has since become a sought-after place to live (although still primarily catering for social housing). Grade II* listed.
