Introduction

The photograph on this page of Tail gates, Lock 54 by Jonathan Wilkins as part of the Geograph project.

The Geograph project started in 2005 with the aim of publishing, organising and preserving representative images for every square kilometre of Great Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

There are currently over 7.5m images from over 14,400 individuals and you can help contribute to the project by visiting https://www.geograph.org.uk

The functional, elegant simplicity of the gates on the narrow lock contrasts with modern brick and satellite dish. The house on the left of the image is much older, but the modern house uses the same coloured motifs and materials. The high-contrast black and white of the painted woodwork is a perfect backdrop for my high-contrast, black and white Geograph assistants.
